NATIVE RESOLUTION IS DEAD! The Rise of Upsampling | PS5, Xbox & PC
Native resolution isn’t important anymore, instead, it’s the quality of the final assembled image. With Nvidia’s DLSS technology producing virtually identical images to native resolution, and the RX 6000 series of graphics cards from AMD capable of using Fidexlity FX Super Sampling, this means that all RDNA 2 class systems (PlayStation 5, Xbox series consoles and of course anything on the PC) can use similar technology.
Higher resolutions are a tremendous increase in hardware requirements on the machine and pushing Hardware-based ray tracing, higher frame rates and better quality visuals, all at a high native resolution is a tall order. Efficient usage of the rendering pipeline and smartly upsampling from a lower resolution is instead, likely the better way to go.
