What is a Bounty in a Poker Tournament?
A Bounty means that you get paid a reward when you knock out and eliminate a player. However, there are two types of Bounty Poker Tournaments. If it’s a standard Bounty poker tournament, you collect a little money every time you knock someone out of the poker tournament.
For example, if you knock out another player, you might receive a $100 “Bounty”. The amount always remains the same when you knock someone out. So, if the bounties are $100, every time you knock someone out, you win $100.
If the bounties are $25, every time you knock someone out, you win $25. The amount you win for knocking someone out doesn’t change based on the blind levels. It remains the same throughout the tournament.
This kind of tournament is appealing to many people because you can get your buy-in back without making the money. The downside is that the bounty money reduces the overall prize pool.
If it’s a Special Bounty Poker Tournament or charity event, there are specific players with bounties on their heads, usually poker pros or celebrities. If you knock out one of those special players, you might receive a bigger prize, such as $500 or a free seat to a bigger event.
